Roy is a board member of the organization providing Humanists leadership training, the Humanist Institute, and is an advisory board member of Secular Student Alliance, which is mobilizing students for a new enlightenment. He also is an advisory board member for the Women's Law & Public Policy Fellowship Program, which helps attorneys to pursue their interests in public service and women's equality.
Between 1995-2001, Roy worked for the Interfaith Alliance, in Washington, D.C., where he managed staff in the role of deputy director. The Interfaith Alliance is a national grassroots organization of people of faith and goodwill with a membership of over 150,000. Since 1994 it has stood-up to those amongst the religious right who would manipulate religion to serve their own partisan agendas.
Before going to The Interfaith Alliance, Roy worked as a fundraiser for various causes (from AIDS research and treatment to wildlife conservation) and spent a brief time at the Anti-Defamation League, working on their World of Difference Campaign.
Roy graduated George Mason University's MBA program, with a concentration in information systems management and finished with a 3.8 GPA. He earned a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from Mary Washington College, where he was active working for GLBT rights, multicultural sensitivity and environmental progress. In addition to his college education, Roy received specialized training in nonprofit tax law, budgeting, investing, grassroots organizing, and dispute resolution. Roy graduated from Carmel High School, New York where he received awards in track & field as well as in music.
Roy now lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife, Charlene Gomes, little girls, Johanna and Riley, two cats, Mushu and Chloe and dog Cowboy. He enjoys biking, hiking, photography, reading, writing and experimenting with new technologies in his spare time. Roy has built his own computer, designed and managed multiple websites, written for several publications and completed the 2003 People's Marathon in four hours and seventeen minutes.
Roy is an ENTJ on the Myers-Briggs typology, an eNFj-Idealist on the Keirsey Temperament typology, and express multiple Enneagram types in moderation -with Reformer, Peacemaker, and Investigator scoring highest.
